Several ski resorts including Kijimadaira, Nozawa Onsen, Madarao, and Togari Onsen are within a 20-minute drive of the house, with more options such as Shiga Kogen within 30 to 60 minutes.
A Lawson convenience store and bar are located directly opposite the house, with a range of local restaurants, cafés, and bakeries within easy walking distance.
Forested trails, mountain routes and scenic backroads surround Kijimadaira. From gentle valley walks to alpine hikes and cycling through cedar forests, there are options for all levels within 20 to 40 minutes of the house.
The famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is about 40 minutes away. Visitors can walk a forest trail to see wild Japanese macaques bathing in natural hot springs, especially active during winter.
Cherry blossom season peaks in mid to late April in this region. Nearby parks and riversides offer classic sakura views, with larger festivals in Joetsu and quieter local spots in Iiyama.
