About Our Home

3107-1 Hotaka, Kijimadaira, Shimotakai District, Nagano 389-2301, Japan

This is our shared family holiday home in Kijimadaira, a small rural town in northern Nagano. We use the house throughout the year with our families and occasionally open it to close friends and family so others can enjoy the area as we do.

Kijimadaira is a close-knit community where people know each other, look out for one another, and take pride in their town. Because of that, we take our responsibility to the local community seriously, and we ask our guests to do the same.

This is new for us, and we’re still learning how best to share the house while doing right by the local community.

Staying here won't always be about being a tourist behind closed doors. It’s about living like the locals do, even for a short time.

That means:

  • Sorting rubbish and recycling properly, following local rules

  • Being mindful of noise, especially in the evenings

  • Respecting shared spaces, neighbours, and the village pace of life

In winter, it also means embracing everyday realities like: clearing snow, managing wet gear, and adjusting plans to weather and conditions.

For us, that’s part of the experience. It’s one of the things that makes staying here special rather than inconvenient.

We ask our guests to:

  • Treat the house with care, as you would your own family home

  • Be considerate of neighbours and the wider community

  • Engage with the place respectfully, not just pass through it

If that approach resonates with you, this house will be a great base for skiing, exploring, and experiencing  Japan in a genuine way.
